About the Hottest of the 1950's outboard Hot-Rods! Pristine 1955 Aristo Craft Torpedo, 1958 Mercury Mark 78 (70 HP, 6-cylinder), and 1955 Sterling Bee-Line Trailer. This is the original Aristo Craft Torpedo design, that was slightly restyled for 1956. It is a warehouse find that was in such excellent condition that it went through preservation, not restoration, at the Aristo Craft factory near Atlanta and is in like-new condition. The Torpedo is still being manufactured and sells today for $25,000. The indoor photos were taken at the factory after preservation was completed. It has been under blankets and tarp in heated indoor storage since preservation. The motor has not been re-installed since preservation nor has the boat been in the water. The 70 HP 1958 Mercury Mark 78 motor was the most powerful outboard on the market in 1958 and the Torpedo with this motor would have been among the very fastest outboard runabouts available. The motor has been professionally restored mechanically and electrically, and repainted. It has a new-in-box Quicksilver 19" pitch bronze 2-blade prop. The trailer is an unusual tilt-bed Sterling Bee-Line. Trailer decals have been faithfully reproduced as has the original selling dealer's decal. Trailer restoration is nearing completion.
