Description
1983 Cooper Marine 40' Tugboat Trawler, Located in Northern, MI
Construction: This vessel was custom built by Cooper Marine in Selkirk Ontario Canada in 1983. Full displacement hull is all steel. The keel consists of an 8" I beam, hull is 3/16" plate, cabin house is 1/8" plate. There are six longitudinal stringers and frames are set on 3' centers along the entire length. The hull was lengthened to 40' LOA in 1999 by adding a 4' fantain to the stern. This added greatly to the functionality of the rear deck along with increasing the fuel efficiency. A lazarrette was also incorporated into the design and is accessed through a Freeman hatch in the rear deck. The gunwales along the entire hull were also professionally repainted using Devoe urethane paint. 2 coats of Devoe 302 zinc primer, 2 coats of Devoe Bar rust 233, and finally, two part Devoe urethane paint. All deck surfaces are painted on non-skid and the bottom is painted with West Marine CPP anti-fouling paint.
Accommodations: The vessel is entered through either side of the pilothouse. On the port side on the pilothouse is a stairway that leads down to the main cabin. It features a full height head room throughout on two large size beds. Forward on the main cabin is a very large chain locker. Towards the aft and starboard is the head featuring a manual toilet and sink. Aft of the pilothouse and two steps down is the galley that also has a sink, microwave, fridge, and portable butane stove. Moving aft is a dinette table that can slide out of the way for entering. It has a fold out couch for extra sleeping. A door leads to the aft deck from this area.
Electronics: Single 30 amp shore power hookup. 1800-watt Heart inverter with six golf cart size batteries. 2 VHF radios, Iterphase Probe forward looking depth finder, Raytheon GPS and radar, digital tachometer, AM/FM CD player radio.
Equipment: 9' Apex inflatable with 9.5 HP Johnson outboard. Custom stainless davit lifts it to upper deck storage rack. One Universal modified plow anchor, one 25# Danforth anchor, 250' main anchor rode. Anchor roller and windlass of bow. Bocking lines, 4 15" fenders, life ring, and life sling MOB retrieval, 10 adult and 2 children life jackets all equipped with waterproof lights and whistles, custom made steering wheel, compass, map lights, search light, three horns.
Mechanical: Single Perkins 6-354 diesel, 135 HP, running through Velvet drive transmission with 2.91:1 reduction, keel cooling runs the full length of the boat in the protection of the I beam keel, dry stack exhaust with silencer runs up through pilothouse roof. Engine is located midship and is reached through a door in the forward cabin. Shaft is 2" stainless steel, 3 blade 30" propeller is completely protected by keel. Two fuel tanks are located on either side of the engine with a total of 170 gals. Fuel is run thru Algae X filler, Racor and CAV fuel filters. Stern Thruster. Portable generator.
