- 1996 Mainship 31 Sedan Bridge “Pelican”. Meticulous maintenance, detailed maintenance log, incredibly clean, all systems function perfectly, ready to cruise. Most recent haul-out for routine maintenance of the bottom & running gear was April 2024.
- Pelican is a top-shelf example of the Mainship 31. A real cream-puff that must be seen and test-driven to fully appreciate.
- Twin screw, fresh-water cooled Marine Power 454 cubic inch V8 gasoline engines, electronic fuel injection, V-drive transmissions. Engines start without hesitation, idle smoothly, run strong, purr like kittens.
- Given the high cost of diesel fuel and the high cost of diesel maintenance and repairs, these big-block gasoline engines are the best engine option for affordable operation & maintenance. Any marine mechanic or do-it-yourself owner/operator can work on these simple, reliable engines.
- Total time 2,104 hours. Typical service life of large, inboard marine gasoline engines is 3000-5000 hours assuming normal operation and regular maintenance. Some owner's insist that if you take care of your engines, and maintain them, there is no reason you can't get 6,000-10,000 hours out of a 454. Because these engines & transmissions have been rigorously maintained, they can be expected to provide many more years of reliable service.
- ComNav 1420 Autopilot keeps her on course while you enjoy the view making only minor steering corrections as needed.

- All new custom 8' x 10' Sunbrella bimini and full Strataglass bridge enclosure installed in 2022. Unique, custom canvas cockpit cover provides full shade in cockpit without any struts or straps to interfere with viewing or fishing.
- Extra-wide bench seat for helm and two L-shaped settee’s for guests on the flying bridge. Bridge cushions and bolsters in excellent condition.
- Full-width molded-in swim platform is an integral part of hull. Swim ladder also built in. Transom door from swim platform to cockpit. Curving staircase from cockpit to bridge, bridge combing walk-through from bridge to fore deck and bow pulpit.
- Custom plexiglass windscreen for bridge helm station
- Molded-in bench seats on both sides of spacious cockpit also serve as storage compartments and handy steps for moving about the boat. They also serve as tables for your food & beverage when lounging in the comfortable deck chairs in the shaded cockpit.
- Extensive system of beautifully integrated hand rails throughout the boat will keep you securely on your feet.
- Large deck hatch in cockpit leads to clean, spacious engine room. Super-easy access to engines for all maintenance tasks. This is the cleanest, most maintenance-friendly engine room you’ll find on this class of cruiser.
- All interior carpeting replaced with beautiful, long-lasting luxury vinyl planking.
- Dual-voltage Norcold refrigerator and small built-in microwave oven
- Premium electric marine toilet uses fresh-water to eliminate all of the unpleasant odors typically found with marine sanitation systems. New macerator pump provides easy pump-out of holding tank. Deck fitting for marina pump-out stations also provided.

- Regarding boat reviews:
-
Sometimes I run across a boat review that is…well, just plain exasperating. Sometimes there are so many things wrong with a review that a seller doesn’t know where to begin exposing all the falsehoods and revealing the truth. The most prominent online review of the Mainship 31 Sedan Bridge is one of those exasperating reviews.
Having now owned and operated a Mainship 31 for a decade, I can tell you that this blisteringly negative review is so loaded with falsehoods and inaccuracies that you have to wonder what was the reviewer’s real agenda.
When I first read this review 10 years ago, shortly before buying the boat, I almost let it convince me not to even bother looking. But I ultimately decided to see for myself and what I found was a fine motor yacht that was nothing at all like the wildly negative description in this angry rant of a boat review.
If I had allowed myself to be deceived by this review, I and my family would have missed out on the best boating of our lives aboard what is easily the coolest boat I’ve owned during 60 years of boating with boats of every description, including two different Mainships.
I could provide a point-by-point rebuttal of this review (and will for those who ask) but, instead, I’ll just urge you to remember that not all boat reviews are accurate. Sometimes, they’re just flat-out wrong. Sometimes, the reviewer has a hidden agenda. When it comes to the Mainship 31, your best course is to read ALL the reviews and then actually see the boat for yourself. When you see Pelican, you’ll be glad you did!
