When pondering the Catalina Morgan 440, its probably best to throw preconceptions out the window. It's certainly designed for longer distance and offers more offshore capability than many vessels in its length. The 440 combines the rugged offshore features of the Morgan and the comfort, ergonomics and style of the Catalina. Cruisers want speed under sail, easy motion and sure, predictable handling characteristics. The hull from the 440 is conservative and sea-kindly and designed not to pound when going to weather or powering into seas. Offering the stability of a very low center of gravity, the 440 hull is stiff and comfortable. Offering a deck salon with fantastic visibility below, two stateroom / two head and a fantastic storage room.
"Sea Change" is powered by a Yanmar 75hp. She carries a Leisure Furl Boom main and a 120% furling jib. Bow Thruster ! Full electronics are covered by Raymarine. Solar panels installed 2023. And a full enclosure for the cockpit adds additional comfort to all.
Currently located in Bainbridge Island, Washington, she will be arriving to the SF Bay area in mid June and will be available for showing in our Alameda office.

Deck and Hull
Hull - Below waterline the boat is solid glass, above the waterline it is cored with 3/4" balsa. The balsa core is coated, scored, end grain balsa, providing excellent panel stiffness and insulating properties. A variety of materials include balsa, ply and metal depending on the forces on a given part of the deck.. Vinylester resin is used, and the ultimate laminate thickness is impressive. The hull grid system of glass is massive, and the basic flooring structure is an aluminum grid system. Collision bulkhead - Aft of the anchor locker is this important safety feature that no blue water cruising boat should be without. This bulkhead is fiber glassed in on both sides and allows the forward compartment, which is the anchor well, to be flooded in case of damage without sacrificing the water tight integrity of the boat. Stanchions - 30" tall, heavy-wall, tapered, removable lifeline stanchions on custom through bolted bases. Hull to deck joint - An internal flange type that is mechanically fastened and bonded. The fasteners are covered by a teak toe rail cap that incorporates a heavy stainless steel rub rail. Anchor Locker - Extends the entire area in the hull forward of the collision bulkhead. Divided into port and starboard halves, the locker will accommodate two separate anchor rods. Windlass - A vertical type with a dedicated chain gypsy set on centerline is provided with both power up and power down switches. Skeg hung rudder - The ultimate in off-shore blue water cruiser durability. This rudder has a solid stainless steel rudder post and stout upper and lower rudder bearings. A custom, heavy duty aluminum weldment supports the upper rudder bearing and quadrant, as well as supporting the autopilot drive motor. The Fin Keel has (9) type 316 stainless keel bolts cast in place . The casting is lead with antimony added for additional hardness, which makes the keel more resistant to damage from grounding or impact and is much easier to maintain than that of iron keels. Life Raft storage area - On the transom is a unique lockable stern locker for storage for a 6 person life raft or other treasures. Cockpit - The 440 offers a very large and comfortable cockpit. The nine foot cockpit seats with deep backrest make this the most secure, and comfortable cockpit in her class. A space between the pedestal and the table allows easier crew access to port and starboard winches. The sturdy four leg cockpit table is standard with large storage bin and guard at the forward end of the table. Secure foot braces are under the table port and starboard creating a secure position on either tack. Access from a functional transom to cockpit is off to starboard of mid line with retractable life lines into the stern pulpit. "Margarita seat" - Stern pulpit seats, port and starboard always has the best view ! Access to fresh water H/C shower is very convenient as you step aboard the transom.
