LOON was constructed on a rugged Atlantic Boat Company 31' hull, built in Brooklin, ME. This Spencer Lincoln design is noted for its delightful sheer, fine forefoot, and flat aft section, offering excellent, comfortable, sea-keeping.
She has extensive custom interior and exterior work, including extending the house and transom. The distinctive transom is an elegant, rounded, reverse-sloping and tumblehome design that is a signature feature of this lovely boat. The design and construction team was led by Master Shipwright, Hans Zimmer at Pilots Point Shipyard, Westbrook, CT.
The style, craftsmanship, and quality materials, such as all bronze deck hardware, are reminiscent of classic wooden boats of earlier times, yet LOON is entirely up to date. The luxurious cockpit with Herreschoff-inspired seating, and the swooping lines of the house, trimmed in high-gloss teak, could be mistaken for a Hinckley 36, but LOON is more spacious and comes with direct drive. The accommodation below is equally comfortable, with Heat, A/C, a full Galley, Head and Shower, and an unusually large Vee-berth, 7'4" long.
The boat has been lightly used since new, with very low hours. The second owner, a lifelong marine industry professional, has thoughtfully and tastefully added new electronics, an inverter, air conditioning, and new soft goods. Recently, LOON has had a complete bottom job consisting of stripping, barrier coating, and ablative anti-fouling paint. All the brightwork was 'wooded' and revarnished, and the hull and the house painted, at Safe Harbor Pilots Point, one of New England's premier yards.
